Professor Peter Adebola OKUNEYE is a world renowned and erudite scholar in Agricultural and Environmental Economics who blends theory with practical issues in examining and solving problems of social, economic and environmental dimensions. Having obtained his B.Sc. and Master’s degrees in Agricultural Economics and Impact analysis at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan in 1975 and 1978 respectively, he proceeded to the School of Economic Studies of the great University of Leeds, U.K. for his Doctorate (Ph.D.) degree in Agricultural Economics and Policy Analysis and graduated in July 1982. His research, teaching, extension and consultancy experience spanned various great institutions including the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research, NISER (1976–1986); University of Lagos, Abeokuta Campus, (1986 – 1988); Fed. Univ of Agric, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) 1988 to date.

During this period, Prof. ‘Bola Okuneye also worked either on leave of absence/sabbatical or as a Consultant at the University of Ilorin; Olabisi Onabanjo (Ogun State) University; the World Bank; United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Geneva; Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Rome; International Labour Organisation (ILO); United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); French Foreign Affairs Ministry (CICRED)/UNESCO; Earth Track Incorporation; the UNICEF; International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Washington DC; the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, National Food Reserve Agency (formerly Federal Agricultural Coordinating Unit), National FADAMA programme, Federal Ministry of Environment and various other Agencies of the Federal government as well as numerous State MDAs. In particular,  consult for the Lagos State government on its coconut industry and the Agric-YES programme. I had also consulted for the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA; the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), to mention a few.

My major areas of contribution include
a)    Curriculum Development at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels;
b)    Capacity  Building at the formal and informal sectors;
c)    Development of academic and professional programmes at the tertiary institutional levels in Fed. Universities of Agric, Abeokuta, Makurdi, Umudike; Uniben, Unibadan, Unilorin, Olabisi Onabanjo Univ, Adamawa State Univ, Yaba College of Tech., etc.
d)    Impact Analysis of Structural Adjustment Programmes/Fuel Subsidy Removal on Poverty and Social Issues – UNEP/UNDP/WORLD BANK/FMA&RD, etc.
e)    Administration and management of academic institutions;
f)    Strategies for poverty reduction and empowerment of small and medium scale farmers to achieve commercial agriculture through research, extension and farmer linkages, establishing a road map for the diversification of developing economy through appropriate combination of economic activities based on their comparative advantages,
g)    FADAMA Programmes Impact Analysis and Areas of Improvement at the National/State levels;
h)    A comparative assessment of the weaknesses and strengths of Development Partners/Donors’ activities in Nigeria and other Developing Nations
i)    analysing the impacts of other sectors on agricultural development,
j)    assessing the impacts of socio-economic development projects/activities on the environment,
k)    Institutional income generation and mentoring,
l)    External Examiner to numerous Universities in Nigeria and other countries and
m)    Programming agricultural production, processing, storage and marketing for value addition, food security and exports as well as meeting the Millennium Development Goals.
In my 35 years of teaching and research I had taught over 10, 000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, written over 150 publications in learned Journals, Books, Monographs, Refereed Proceedings and Conferences including the highly celebrated Inaugural lecture “Nigerian Agriculture on the Run: Refuses to move.” The second Inaugural Lecture Series of the Fed. University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, presented on 24th May 1995 and the 1st Nigerian Distinguished Lecture Series Presenter at Afe Babalola University on “Achieving Agricultural Self-Sufficiency in Nigeria: Linking Promises to Realistic Policies” in 2010. As a Consultant, the record of obtaining a N760 million contract from the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) on sustainable development programmes in Delta State is quite mouth watering. Others include the public and private sector contracts for the University and other organisations
I was appointed Professor of Agricultural Economics in two Universities, Ilorin and Abeokuta, almost simultaneously in 1991/92.
At the public level I had served in many positions including:

Prof. ‘Bola Okuneye, former Head, Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, University of Ilorin (1991 – 1992), Dean, College of Agricultural Management, Rural Development and Consumer Studies, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) January 1993 to July 2000, Director, Agricultural Media and Resource Extension Center (1996 – 1997), Chairman Committee of Deans and Directors (CODAD), UNAAB, (1998-2000), and the Managing Director, UNAAB Consult Ltd (2006 – 2009) was born in Ijebu – Igbo on Dec 23, 1952, attended Ago-Iwuoye Secondary School and Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, before proceeding to the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and the University of Leeds, England, is married to Pastor (Mrs.) Mojoyin Yinka Okuneye (nee Dayo) and the marriage is blessed with lovely mature children.
