Prof. Saidat Adebukola Onashoga (Mrs.), a Chartered IT Professional (CITP), was born into a family of five in the early 70s. She is the second and first female child of Late Surveyor S. A. Okunlaya and Retired (ADN) B. O. Okunlaya. She had her primary school education at United Missionary College, Molete, Ibadan and proceeded to the “ever making wave” St.Teresa’s College Oke-Ado, Ibadan for her secondary school education.
In line with her aspiration to become a lecturer, she was admitted to Federal College of Education for N.C.E in Mathematics/Computer Ed. Her fast way of solving problems in Mathematics gave her the alias ‘Calculator’ and was popularly identified with that. She later proceeded to University of Agriculture, Abeokuta to study Mathematical Sciences with an option in Computer Science where she came out with the best performance among her mates. She was posted to a Federal Ministry in Abuja for her National Youth Service Corp (NYSC).
Her quest for academics continues when she got an appointment as a Graduate Assistant in her Alma Mata. She commenced her postgraduate studies in Computer Science and as part of her always being exceedingly distinct, she came out best among her mates with a proceed to Ph.D. study. In 2005, she registered for a Ph.D. study in computer science with a focus on computer security. She had a successful defence of her research work in April 2010. The 2007/2008 set of her students bestowed on her an award as the “Best Female Lecturer” in the department of computer science.
Dr. Onashoga’s professional interests include data mining, computer security and information management. She has several local and international journals with a higher percentage on computer security. She has attended both national and international workshops, seminars and conferences. Her current researches focus on applying her research knowledge in computer security to different domains e.g. privacy-preserving data mining algorithms in health care management and developing secure mobile applications.
She is presently a member of reputable societies like Informing Science Institute, USA, Computer Professionals of Nigeria (CPN), Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) e.t.c.
As part of her achievements in Ogun State Chapter of NCS, she is the current Chairman, also she was conferred with an award as the “Most distinguished member” in 2010. Up-to date she is the MATRON of the FUNAAB National Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS). Outside academia, Dr. Bukola Onashoga loves creativity and partying, she belongs to notable social groups.
Dr. Onashoga is married and blessed with future presidents of nations. Her favourite quotes are “Give me a place to stand and I would move the whole world” and “Trust not a reconciled friend, for good turns cannot blot out old grudges” by Archimedes and George Chapman resp.
