VC Warns Fresh Students on Immoral Acts

A call has gone to newly-admitted students of the University to shun immoral acts during their stay in the citadel of learning.

This call was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, in his Matriculation Address for the 2010/2011 Academic Session.

Professor Balogun asked the fresh students to bear in mind, at all times, that the University has zero tolerance for academic laziness, truancy, indiscipline, vandalism, disrespect for constituted authorities and youthful rascality.

In the same vein, he warned them against irresponsible unionism, cultism, provocative mode of dressing within the campus as well as indiscriminate pasting of materials on the University facilities.

Professor Balogun further cautioned that the University will not shirk its responsibility of encouraging students to be distinguished in both character and learning, saying “miscreants and academic pretenders, who have other reasons for being in the University aside academic pursuits, would not be tolerated”.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the current imposition on Student Union activities in the University will be till further notice, while an interim arrangement would be made through a Student Caretaker Committee (SCC), which he said would be composed of “the brightest and the best 400-level students with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the various colleges”.

The rite of the Pledge of Obedience was earlier performed on the matriculants by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Adeleke Adeboye, with a pledge to respect, defend and promote the rules, regulations and the integrity name of the University.
