An impetus has been added to the research profile of the University as it has established a Directorate that will facilitate research efforts, by assisting with application for grants and fellowships, negotiation of research contracts and the administration of external funds.
Designated as FUNAAB Grants Management Directorate, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun has already approved the appointment of Professor O. B. Oyewole as its Director.
A statement by the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Christiana Kuforiji informed that the appointment of Professor Oyewole of the Department of Food Science and Technology, College of Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC) is with effect from January 1, 2012, and it is for a period of two years.
According to the blueprint for the Directorate, its goals include meeting global standards and expectations of donors for accountability, transparency and effective management of research funding, for maximum outputs.
It will also strive to facilitate international research in the University by seeking and providing information to upcoming research schemes and facilitate research management, associated with externally-funded research work in the University.
The overall goal will be to make FUNAAB more competitive in international research and strengthen the administrative base for research grants management.
The Directorate’s principal functions also include the development of research policy for the University and provision of regular Monitoring and Evaluation of the research activities in the University.
It will also ensure that the University’s interests are protected in the negotiation of grants and contracts as it relates to research in the University.
For effective performance, the Directorate will operate through five basic Units.
They are; Research and Development; Training and Policy Unit; Finance Unit; Legal Unit; Research Linkages and Ethics Unit; and FUNAAB Central Laboratory Unit.
