IMC Lauds Quality of FUNAAB NEEDS Project

The Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC), on the Needs Assessment Intervention in Nigerian Public Universities has expressed satisfaction With the quality and standard of projects being executed in the University.

The leader of the team, Mr. Samson Ugwuoke gave the commendation after leading his team on an inspection tour of project sites.

Mr. Ugwuoke who is the National President of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), however charged the Institution to adhere strictly to due process in all its procurement processes and to also utilise the funds as stipulated in the proposal submitted and approved for the University. He directed that all the projects executed from the NEEDS assessment funds should be properly branded for ease of identification, adding that the funds allocated for capacity building training should also be utilised as directed.

Mr. Ugwuoke disclosed that when in doubt or faced with challenges, the University could write to the Committee for clarification even as he charged members of the Budget Monitoring Committee (BMC), in the University which comprises representative of all the Unions in the University and other Principal Officers not to leave any stone unturned in the discharge of their duties.

The team went on inspection tour of the College of Plant Science and Crop Production, Phase II Building which is expected to accommodate six Laboratories, five classrooms,ht en-suite Professorial offices and eight conveniences, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far. The Project team informed the IMC that the furniture for the building had been awarded but the contractor was awaiting the completion of the project to do fittings.

Other projects visited were Academic Building (A and B Block); the proposed College of Food Science and Human Ecology, Phase II; 250 Seater Computer Laboratory; Proposed Female and Male Hostels and the proposed Postgraduate Hostel (A and B Block).

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Professor Lateef Sanni assured the IMC of the University’s commitment to accountability and transparency in all ramifications.
