Computer Science Holds 4th Induction

Graduates from the Department of Computer Science have been inducted into the Computer Professionals Council of Nigeria.

Speaking on the theme of the Induction Ceremony tagged “Building A Better Life with Information Technology”, the Technical Adviser/Head Marketing, Precise Financial System, Mr. Obot Akpan called on the graduands to use their knowledge in Computer Science for the building of a better life for Nigeria.

Mr. Akpan while presenting the keynote address noted that the onus is now on the new computer experts to ensure that they use the various skill for a better life aspiration.

He charged the graduands to subscribe to responsible use of technology to create happiness and spread joy, rather than exploring the innocents. He said they should use their knowledge in computer technology to reduce governance burdensomeness; Electoral malpractices; Justice maladministration; security manipulation; Economic Wastefulness; Infrastructural deficiency and Technology amoralisation.

Mr. Akpan equally tasked the newly inducted to believe in the profitability of every labour, should not join the Nigerian Science and Technology Talents Prodigals, and shift their mind from Servile Engineers to Entrepreneurial Engineers.

Also, lending his voice, the Guest Speaker, Mr. Tunde Ogunremi, the Executive Director, Relluge Systems Limited charged the students to uphold the reputation of the IT professionals, and not mis-represent the integrity of the council.

Mr. Ogunremi also called on the inductees to acquire Professional Competencies, and attain relevant training when necessary.

He also tasked them not to engage in intellectual theft, but rather, they should conform to standard expected of them.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako represented by the Dean College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT) Prof. Muftau Atayese commended the Department and congratulated the graduands.

The Vice-Chancellor promised that the University will always give its support when necessary, while he appreciated the Computer Professionals Council of Nigeria.

The Acting Head of Department, Computer Science, Dr. (Mrs.) Bukola Onashoga also described IT professionals as having the future of the world in their hands.

He noted that the essence of the Induction is to open up the facet of life the inductees will pass through.

She welcomed them into the council, nothing that most of them have displayed some level of commitment in the computer profession.
