FUNAAB Appoints New DVC (Academic)

The Governing Council of the University has approved the appointment of Prof. Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). Prof. Akeredolu-Ale, who is of the Department of Communication and General Studies, College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), was the former Dean of the College. The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) bagged her first degree in English from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan in 1984 and Master’s degree in Linguistics from the same University in 1987. She proceeded to the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Lagos where she obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism in 1989 before pursuing her second Master’s Degree programme at the University of Birmingham, England in 1993; while she bagged her PhD in English in 2000.

Prof. Akeredolu-Ale joined the services of FUNAAB on December 1, 1989 as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Communication and General Studies and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Communication and General Studies with effect from October 1, 2008. She is a member of several learned societies such as the COMSKIPTECH Project Network, National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Association of Teachers and Researchers of English as a Second Language (NATRESL) from 2006 till date, Ogun State (Nigeria) Association of Teachers of English, British Association of Lecturers for English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP), International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL), and International Association of World Englishes (IAWE), among others.

The Don has served in various capacities within the University such as Head of Department of Communication and General Studies, between August 2005 and July 2010; Dean, COLAMRUD for two years with effect from August 1, 2013; and was re-appointed as Dean, COLAMRUD for another term on July 29, 2015. The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) was Chairman, Staff School Committee, 1999 – 2000; Member, Security Committee, 1999 – 2004; Member, Staff School Board, 2000 – 2004; COLAMRUCS, Representatives at COLERM, 1999 – 2003; Postgraduate Coordinator, GNS Department, 1999 – 2003; Member, University-Wide Committee on the Eradication of Cultism, 1999; Member, Committee for the University-Wide Reception for the Newly-appointed Governing Council, 2000; member at various interview panels for both the senior and junior non-teaching staff; Member, University Publications Committee, 2006 – 2007; Member, University Senate, 2004 till date; Member, University 2008/2009 and 2010/2011 Admissions Screening Exercise; and Chairman, Acada Challenge, 2007 – 2009.

Prof. Akeredolu-Ale is a beneficiary of several scholarships and awards such as the Overseas Development Administration (ODA) Training Awards to attend the various COMSKIPTECH training workshops, organised by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the British Council in 1989, 1991 twice in 1992 and 1993 and ODA Fellowship Award, administered through the British Council in Nigeria, to attend a Master’s programme at the University of Birmingham in 1992-1993. Prof. Akeredolu-Ale has more than 35 scholarly publications to her credit in books, journals and papers in referred conference proceedings.

Her duties as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) include all matters relating to academic policies, development, administration and review, undergraduate and postgraduate course work programmes, examinations, admissions, coordination and academic oversight of educational activities of other campuses, as well as liaising with relevant University’s commercial arms to provide strategic overview of academic development and planning.
