Much Ado About Attitude

Attitude is said to be an individual’s predisposed state of mind regarding a value and it is precipitated through a responsive expression towards oneself, place, thing or event, which influences the individual’s thought and action, says Wikipedia.com. Attitude could be either positive or negative depending on the situation. Youressay.com states that there are several components that make up a person’s attitude; which could be emotional, cognitive or behavioural.

Attitudes that influence human behaviour could also be explicit or implicit. The former are those things that we are constantly aware of that influence our thoughts and beliefs while the later are those unconscious things that could also influence our behaviour. It is true that attitudes do influence behaviour, as studies have shown that people behave according to their attitude under certain conditions. Though attitudes impact on our behaviour, they could also be changed through influence or motivation.

Peoples’ attitude to life determine their attitude towards others. Having the right attitude to life and to people around us could draw the attention of kings and queens, while a negative attitude could repel others. Positive attitude attracts positive individuals that could eventually lead to breakthrough. Many people have lost good and friendly relationships, marriages, colleagues, life opportunities and loved ones because they had awful attitudes.

Cnc.com has identified ways to improve our attitudes; always act purposefully, stretch past your limits every day, take actions without expecting results, use setbacks to improve yourself, seek out those who share your positive attitude, never take yourself so seriously, forgive the limitations of others, and say ‘thank you’ more frequently. Since attitude influences our actions, as individuals, we should always take charge of our attitude by not allowing anyone to choose or influence us negatively since only the right attitude begets good behaviour.
