The Vice Chancellor, Professor Felix Kolawole Salako has admonished the youths to stay focused, determined and believe in themselves so as to achieve greatness in life.
The Vice-Chancellor disclosed this when he received the Children of Ijamido Children’s Home, Ota Ogun State, who were on a mentorship tour to his office.
According to him, one should not bother about what people would say about him or her, but rather stay focused on what they want to achieve. He noted that one could live a normal life without sin.
Professor Salako urged the children to have a mind for progress of their communities and how they can help the society to grow even as he warned them to desist from going into fraudulent act. He stressed that there was no way they would cheat other people and think they were enjoying, noting that they are rather destroying themselves.
According to him, he said anything one has without peace of mind is not enjoyment. He added that success should be defined by contentment not by the amount of money one has.
He, therefore, called on them to explore the acquisition of skills through entrepreneurial training, saying that it would set them on the right path in life as job creators rather than job seekers.
Corroborating the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Professor Clement Adeofun, stated that God has deposited gifts and talents in every individual, noting that it is now left for the individual to develop the talents.
He said that apart from the children re-discovering themselves, they need to have a good role model, adding that they should make up their mind early enough on what they want to do in life.
Professor Adeofun, however, urged the children to acquire special skills that would make them become exceptional in life.
In the same vein, the Registrar, Dr. ‘Bola Adekola, advised them to have the determination on what they want to do and pursue education for the sake of knowledge, skill, and ability, to be useful in the society. The Registrar further charged them to build their life on truthfulness, have a clean heart and mind, and apologise when they erred, adding that it was sheer laziness that drags most youths into crime.
Earlier, Dr. John Willoughby, Senior Director and Head of Administration, Ijamido Children’s Home, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the entire FUNAAB management for the warm reception accorded them and the experience shared, to set them on the right path of life through proper mentoring.
Meanwhile, the Children were taken on a guided familiarisation tour of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS), where the Director, Professor Festus Adeosun further advised the children to take advantage of the entrepreneurial training the Centre offers. The Director was accompanied in the meeting with the Deputy Director, CENTS, Dr. Lawrence Egbeyale and the Marketing Officer, CENTS, Mr. Jide Olaiya.
At the FUNAAB Zoo Park, the Children were received by the Acting Director, Dr. Oladapo Oduntan as well as Mr. Olufemi Bamgbose and they were shown the different types of animals in the Park by the Zoo Curator, Mr. Matthew Ibiyemi and Mrs. Abidemi Ogundele.
