As part of efforts to ease the plight of members of the University Community and the general public plying the busy Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Alabata/ Camp Road, and to reduce auto crashes, the Management of the University has again embarked on fixing of the deplorable road.

Personnel of the University’s Directorate of Works and Services and students from the College of Engineering (COLENG) attached to the Directorate on Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) were seen  working and patching the deplorable parts of the road,in order to create ease of driving for commuters.

The work which is directly under the supervision of the Directorate of Works and Services led by Engr. Olawole Akinyele who spoke to FUNAAB Bulletin on the progress of the work noted that fixing the road, which belongs to Government was borne out of the fact that majority of staff and students of FUNAAB, as well as members of the host communities and the general public are regular users of the road

He said that since the road has been in bad shape, the University Management ,members of staff and other regular users of the road have been spending more money on maintainance of official and personal vehicles respectively.

Engr. Akinyele stated that their job is simple on the road as they only dig out sand anywhere there is a pot-hole and fill it up manually with mixed concrete and compact  to make it motorable.

He further informed that despite it lean pulse, the Prof.Salako-led Management  has taken the road as part of it corporate social responsibilities  borne out largely out of the need to to protect the lives of students and staff plying the road regularly and the public in general.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako has paid an on the spot assessment visit to the students and  staff of Directorate of Works at the Camp/Alabata road while on duty.

During his visit, Prof. Salako commended and appreciated the students for making themselves available.

He admonished them to keep up the good job they are doing because they are  putting into practice what they have been taught in the classroom.
