(ICTREC)

Information and Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC) coordinates all Information and Communication Technology (ICT) related activities on campus. It evolved from the Computer Centre in 2007 to capture the wider landscape of Information and Communication Technology that Computer Technology had evolved into. ICTREC is a professional service centre whose impact cuts across every segment and activity of the University community. These services include Administration, Finance, Security, External collaboration, Teaching, Learning and Research

Vision

To provide, administer and support ICT solutions and services to enhance administrative processes, learning and delivery of the FUNAAB’s teaching, research and extension mandate.

Mandate

  1. Dissemination of good practices in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) innovations to scale up successful computing activities;
  2. Discharge appropriate staff and students’ development through ICT training in order to ensure progress at the institutional level;
  3. Support research and development in learning objects with respect to ICT;
  4. Promoting and relating interactions between ICT vendors and the Institution;
  5. Developing ICT solutions and facilitating the use of open soft solutions that can enhance the delivery of the core mandates of the University;
  6. Providing multimedia coverage for learning, teaching, research and other general uses;
  7. Delivering enhanced career-oriented training with a strong international flavour and contents through partnering with internationally recognised professional ICT organisations to acquire certification training for staff, students and the public;
  8. Offering ICT training facilities beyond the Campus that will extend the catchment area and relevance of the University mandate to school drop-outs at every level so that they can be brought into training schemes for meaningful employment and discouraged from all sorts of crimes, particularly cyber-crimes.

Organisational Structure

The ICTREC is headed by a Director who is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration of the Centre. The Centre has been structured to improve coordination of the several campus-wide services it renders, enhance service delivery and improve performance by grouping the 12 operational Units into four divisions. Each division is supervised by a Deputy Director who oversees the operations of the units in its division and reports to the Director.

The Divisions and Units are as follows;

  4. Hardware maintenance and Repair Unit:

The unit is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of IT equipment (computers, servers, printers …) in offices and computer laboratories to ensure the continued sustenance of the equi[pment.

  1. Multimedia and Online Communication Unit:

The unit is saddled with the deployment, installation, maintenance, repairs and support of multimedia (audio/visual) systems for lectures and events. The unit also operates a recording studio for creating instructional materials, and administer the University’s online channels for events streaming and hosting (Youtube, Zoom etc.)

  2. Management Information System Unit

The Unit is responsible for administration of the University database, software applications (University Management Systems), e-Examination. They provide timely and accurate information on staff and students.

  1. ID Card Production Unit

The unit is saddled with the responsibility of capturing, verifying biometric records of students and staff for Identification purpose and producing their Identification Cards.

  1. Helpdesk Unit

The units Provide information and/or assistance to ICT end users on students’ portal services, hardware and software issues. They also manage the university’s helpdesk channel (www.helpdesk.unaab.edu.ng) and support third party services such as JAMB.

  1. Training Unit

The unit endeavour to improve IT skill and knowledge in the University community by coordinating the compilation of IT training materials and organising computer training programmes for staff and students. They also oversee the computer training rooms

 

  1. Colleges/External Posting Division
  2. College ICT Unit

This unit coordinates the maintenance of ICT equipment, renders support for IT services and supervises the Colleges ICT representatives posted to each of the colleges.

  1. Postgraduate School

The Unit was established to automate the processes of the Postgraduate School: manage, administer and support the PG portal and website; oversee the use of IT equipment for administrative and academic purposes.

  1. Institutes / Centres / Directorate ICT Units

The Unit oversees, manage and supports the operation of high data driven Centre, Institutes and Directorates.
