Short Profile

Comfort Adenike ONIFADE is a Professor of Social Studies and the Head of Department of Communication and General Studies, College of Agricultural Management & Rural Development, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. She has over 30 years experience in teaching, research and extension and served the University in various capacities. She was the Coordinator, Humanities & Management Sciences, Directorate of Grant Management 2017 to 2018.

Her areas of interest include: Peace and Conflict issues, Security challenges, Domestic Violence, Gender and youth issues, Culture, Research Methodology, Information and Communication Technology, Monitoring and Evaluation and Social problems. She has many published works in reputable national and international journals. She has carried out a good number of independent researches in the areas of gender issues, factors hindering women higher education, ethno religious conflicts, governance and insecurity challenges in Nigeria among others. She has conducted many researches on all categories of people, from primary school pupils to secondary, tertiary institutions’ students as well as among rural households. Her current research funded by Tertiary Education Fund (TETFUND) is on the effect of violence against women on the welfare of women and children in Ogun and Kwara States, Nigeria

She has also served as an external examiner and assessor to some universities in the country. She belongs to different professional and social bodies both locally and internationally. Some of these are: Social Studies Association of Nigeria; Society for Peace Studies and Practice; Graduate Women International. She is a member, National Steering Committee of the Civil Society Coalition on Sustainable Development in Nigeria. She is the Coordinator of International Relations (CIR) of the Nigerian Association of University Women (NAUW) and the President of FUNAAB Chapter of the Association. This position has granted her opportunity to mentor many girls and women, grooming them for a better future.

An educationist to the core, Prof. Comfort Onifade’s experience of 20 years as a secondary school teacher has been of immense advantage in her social responsibility among teenagers and youth. She is actively involved in teenage sensitization on social ills including cultism, human trafficking and teenage pregnancy.

She is the Centre Manager, Facilitator and Project Supervisor of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education Program of the National Teachers’ Institute Abeokuta Centre, Ogun State. She has been serving as the Centre Coordinator and Resource Person for the Federal Ministry of Education Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Project of Capacity Training for Primary School Teachers.

As the president of the Initiative for Peace and Comfort, Prof. Onifade is passionate about peaceful living in the home and society and has contributed immensely to radio and television programmes, civil meetings and seminars focused on women empowerment, children protection and girl-child education.
