The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako and other Principal Officers of the University have joined members of staff of ‘Nimbe Adedipe Library in honouring the outgone University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) Mulikat Saalam, for her selfless service to the University during her tenure of office.
Speaking at a Send-Forth ceremony, Professor Salako commended Dr. (Mrs.) Salaam for her enormous contributions to the development of the University’s Library and the institution in general, stressing that the accreditation status enjoyed by the University was an evidence of her diligence and selflessness.
According to him, the outgone University Librarian is a disciplinarian who always stands for what is just, not minding whose ox is gored, adding that this earned her the respect of all and sundry.
The Vice-Chancellor charged the new Acting University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) Fehintola Onifade to build on the legacy of Dr Salaam for the advancement of the institution.
In her remarks, the former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor (Mrs.) Catherine Eromosele described Dr Salaam as a strong, dedicated and persistent woman who had ended her tenure successfully. She extolled her exemplary leadership qualities and her passion for the development of members of staff in the Library.
Corroborating her, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development, Professor Lateef Sanni described the outgone University Librarian as an industrious and fearless activist who always had the best interest of all at heart, even as he implored the new Acting University Librarian to make fairness and justice her watchword.
In his tribute, the Registrar, Dr Bola Adekola, said he admired and learnt a lot from Dr Salaam’s perseverance and welfaristic approach to issues.
Speaking on behalf of Librarians, Dr Kehinde Owolabi said the outgone University Librarian was a generous and kind hearted superior who was passionate about the development of her members of staff and those around her. He pointed out that her motherly care would be greatly missed but assured that her legacy of dedication to duty which she instilled in members of staff would never be forgotten.
In his remark, Mr Niyi Showole on behalf of Library Officers, said Dr Salaam would be remembered for her courage, tolerance and friendly but firm attributes. Other members of staff lauded her for being an exemplary leader, a peace lover and a unifying force.
Responding, Dr Salaam returned all the glory to God for a successful tenure which she attributed to God and the support of Management as well as the cooperation of members of staff, stressing that she would not have been able to do it all by herself.
The Acting Librarian, Dr Onifade appreciated Management for the confidence reposed in her, while assuring that she would keep the flag flying and contribute her bit towards taking the University to greater heights.
In attendance were pioneer University Librarian, Dr Taofiq Salisu and her immediate predecessor , Mr Abayomi Agboola who also showered accolades on Dr Salaam.
